OK, so you have an older Buick Century and it's time to sell. Or maybe it's just time to trade up to something different. What can you do? You can go low-tech by making signs, parking your Century in a busy area, and then seeing what happens. Many of us have sold vehicles in this way. It's fun but it is also work. You have to move your Century often during the day, you have to make or buy your signs, and you have to make sure you park it in an area where people will see it.
Here is where the internet helps make it happen. When you take out an internet ad, you will get a lot of coverage. Your local paper run it but other internet carriers will also pick up your ad. This includes auto ad carriers and other internet newspapers.
Internet ads enable you to run many pictures of your Century and as much of a text description as you want - all at no extra charge. (Running pictures in an ordinary print ad will cost you a small fortune.)
Once you start getting inquires about your Century, you will take on the role of a used car salesperson. But that's OK - and it can be fun! You can show your potential buyers all the special features of your Century and let them test drive it. Don't' forget to give them the "grand tour." Lift up the hood and show them the engine compartment. Show them the trunk area, the interior, and the tires. Point out all the great features of your Century.
If you have an extended warranty, tell your customers that they can have it transferred to them for a small fee. Don't forget to mention the benefits of the warranty and what it covers.
But before you show the car, make sure you have performed any repairs that your Century may need. You do not want to be embarrassed by a bad muffler, leaking oil or grinding brakes. Also be sure the car is as clean as you can possibly make it. Wash and polish the exterior. Wash the wheels and the tires, applying a wheel protectant and a tire dressing. Wash all the mirrors and glass.
Inside your Century, clean the dashboard, the steering wheel, and other vinyl areas with a good vinyl cleaner. Clean the inside of the glove compartment and the ashtrays. Vacuum the carpet and upholstery, removing any spots. Wash the interior windows and mirrors. Remember to vacuum the trunk. If you so desire, have the engine compartment degreased so it is clean and grime-free.
Explain all of the good things about your Century to all potential new owners. Talk up the fact that it is made by GM. Show off the classy design. If you have had new tires or brakes installed recently, point them out. Show off other selling points like low mileage, if you only have highway miles on your Century, etc. If you have had any major work done on your Century, like if you had a new radiator installed or had the transmission rebuilt, tell them about it. If you have it, back it up with paperwork.
If a potential buyer would like to take your Century to a mechanic and to have him or her inspect it, allow them to do so. The buyer may want time to think about purchasing your Century, and to arrange financing and insurance. Let them have time for that but continue showing your Century to other potential buyers, that is, unless you get a substantial down payment or other indication that tells you that a buyer really wants the car.
