The Buick Century was built for a long time, from 1936 to 1942, from 1954 to 1958 and from 1973 to 2005. That means there are a lot of Centuries out there, some of which probably could use a new engine.
You might be able to find a few used engines from late model Centuries that will give you satisfactory service. You can also think about purchasing a "crate" engine. A crate engine, obviously, comes in a crate, and it is warranteed to operate properly because it has been rebuilt and tested according to strict standards.
The first thing the technician does when rebuilding a Buick Century engine is to remove all the plugs. S/he then cleans all the components and inspects the oil galleys to make sure that oil will flow to all strategic areas when the engine is restarted.
A refurbished Century engine has been reworked considerably and has many new parts. This includes reboring the cylinders up to the next size, replacing the pistons and rings, installing new bearings and seals, regrinding the camshaft, and installing a new timing belt and oil pump.
The technician also works on the cylinder heads. S/he installs new valve guides and resurfaces the valves. Then the heads get new pushrods, rocker arms, and valve lifters. After completing the head work, the tech pressure and vacuum tests the head. Finally, the technician cleans the engine again before reassembly, checks for oil leaks, and listens for strange noises.
All this in an effort to give you the best Buick Century "crate" engine money can buy.
